Salary: Clerk Grade 5/6 Salary ($93,295- $102,941) + Superannuation + Annual Leave Loading.

Bourke Community Corrections is a smaller office in a historic outback town on the banks of the Darling River. Bourke / Brewarrina has a number of cultural and tourist attractions including national parks, the Brewarrina Fish Traps, Mount Oxley and the Jandra Paddleboat. What we’re looking for

We recognise the importance of connection with our local communities and we are looking for proactive, dedicated and innovative individual to join our team as Aboriginal Community Engagement and Culture Officer at the Bourke Community Corrections Office 

 

What you’ll do

As an Aboriginal Community Engagement and Culture Officer you will provide advice and support to Community Corrections in the case management of identified offender groups in a culturally sensitive manner and ensure appropriate case plans and supervision is implemented consistent with CSNSW mission of reduction of re-offending.

 

You will also identify and build collaborative community networks and partnerships to improve the effectiveness of community offender programs for identified offender groups.

 

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.  Department of Communities & Justice considers that being an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this role in accordance with Sections 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977

Essential requirements

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and history

or

  • Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:
  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
