Your role

 

You will oversee larger centres or hubs within the NSW Sheriff’s Office, including the primary centre and satellite courts.

 

You will lead a team ensuring staff are well trained and effectively performing their duties to meet the NSW Sheriff’s Office objectives in line with legislative requirements.

 

What you’ll do

 

·                Manage, lead and develop staff in a large Sheriff’s Office centre/hub ensuring practices align with the Business Plan, Public Sector guidelines, and departmental instructions.

·                Provide advice to the Registrar or Regional Commander through reports and correspondence and facilitate support for other locations during resource shortages or high-risk situations.

·                Contribute to policy review and development to improve Centre operations, service delivery, and staff training.

·                Implement service processes for court matters under the Regional Commander’s supervision.

·                Assist Regional Commanders with security plans and risk assessments, ensuring safety for judiciary, jurors, legal professionals, witnesses, and the public.

·                Implement approved business continuity plans, monitor security equipment, and conduct entry screenings using electronic detection tools.

·                Coordinate jurors for Supreme and District Courts, ensuring smooth operations, witness handling, and courtroom decorum.

·                Maintain office records and databases for security systems, vehicle use, work logs, and accounting systems.

·                Support day-to-day regional operations as a Duty Officer.

 

What we’re looking for

 

·                Experience efficiently managing resources in a high volume, diverse and often demanding work environment.

·                Ability to advise and provide guidance on sensitive and difficult law enforcement activities and address client complaints by developing and implementing effective solutions.

·                Strong understanding of legal principles and processes and the NSW court system.

·                Strong understanding and compliance with departmental policies and practices, including harassment prevention, EEO, EAPS, ethical conduct, workplace health and safety, disability awareness, and the Aboriginal Cultural Capability Framework.

·                Sound judgement and experience making independent decisions in relation to day to day security and operational requirements.

·                Good understanding and ability to comply with departmental policies and practices such as harassment prevention, EEO, EAPS, Code of Ethical Conduct, Work, Health and Safety, Ethical Work Practices, Disability Awareness and the Aboriginal Cultural Capability Framework.

 

The role is a sworn Sheriff’s Officer for the purposes of the Sheriff Act 2005. The role will be required to perform the duties of a Sheriff’s Officer as necessary, such as the execution of court orders, and court security duties.

 

Essential requirements

 

·       Successful completion of the Sheriff’s Officer Recruit Training Program.

·       Certificate III in Government to be completed within 12 months of commencement.

·       Successful completion of tactical re-certification, and other prescribed training programs mandated in line with Clause 9 of the Crown Employees (Sheriff’s Officer) Award 2024 as required.

·       Willingness to obtain and complete a Diploma of Leadership and Management or equivalent upon commencement.

·       Current NSW Driver’s Licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service.

·       Current First Aid certificate.

·       Meet the required health, physical and psychological requirements in accordance with agency standards.
