We are looking for a dedicated Senior Coordination Officer to work closely with local governments, industry stakeholders, and communities to drive impactful initiatives that enhance disaster preparedness, response, and recovery across NSW.

 

About the role
As a Senior Coordination Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting communities through disaster processes, ensuring they receive the resources and services they need. You will collaborate with local governments, joint partners, and not-for-profit organisations to develop and implement locally owned mitigation, adaptation, preparedness, and recovery frameworks. Your work will contribute to the alignment of community-driven initiatives with whole-of-government strategies to build resilience and sustainability.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and delivering projects that enhance local government capacity to support infrastructure, utilities, and business continuity.
  • Facilitating information sharing and coordinating resources to support community participation in disaster planning and recovery initiatives.
  • Supporting communities through rebuilding and relocation processes, ensuring NSWRA programs align with local needs.
  • Administering grants and funding programs to provide essential services to disaster-affected communities.
  • Driving best practices in community engagement, staff capability development, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Engaging in broad consultations with local governments, the private sector, and relevant agencies to assess disaster response and recovery capabilities.
  • Preparing reports, correspondence, and briefs to support informed decision-making within the NSWRA and government bodies.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in disaster management, community engagement, or policy implementation.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent project coordination and resource management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to support disaster resilience initiatives.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and briefs.
  • Adaptability and a proactive approach to addressing community needs.
  • Passion for making a tangible difference in NSW communities.

 

Essential requirements: 

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • An ability and willingness to travel within NSW and support other operational roles during disasters, emergencies and other events, consistent with skills, background and personal circumstances.
  • Current unrestricted NSW drivers’ licence.

About the Agency

The NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) is an executive agency of the Premier’s Department. The RA will improve how NSW plans for disasters and help communities to recover from them faster. 

To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the RA will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, NGOs, businesses, and government.
