About the NSW Reconstruction Authority

The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation within the Planning & Environment cluster. The Authority will improve how NSW plans for disasters and make sure that communities across the state recover from them faster.

 

The Authority will complete critical planning and preparation to reduce the severity and impacts of disasters and will start recovery swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts when disasters occur.

 

About the Northern Rivers Adaptation Division

 

The Northern Rivers Adaptation Division (the Division) was established following the 2022 floods before becoming part of the Authority on 1 July 2023. The Division retains its Northern Rivers identity and continues to focus on rebuilding communities across the region.

 

Having the critical work and collective efforts under a single agency provides opportunities to learn from experience, better help communities prepare for future disasters and recover and more effectively rebuild. 

 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the design and delivery of programs, initiatives and policies in order to reduce future risk exposure from natural disasters and build the adaptative capacity of Northern Rivers communities.

 

In this role you will:

  • Build successful collaborations with local and regional councils and stakeholders to deliver resilience and adaptation initiatives that meet user needs.
  • Lead development and delivery of projects, research, analysis and reviews on complex resilience and adaptation policy issues, applying local and expert knowledge and insights.
  • Lead delivery of effective and creative communications and engagement strategies for diverse audiences that increase participation in program initiatives, build knowledge and adaptive capacity.
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of project development and implementation.

About you
The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent knowledge and experience in environmental science or management, disaster risk management, geography, social sciences, economics or climate change adaptation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and complex government environment.
  • Strong communications skills who can interact with internal and external stakeholders and deliver technical information to a broad range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and tasks.
