Your role

This role will provide you a great opportunity for growth and development of leadership skills within Community Corrections. You will be a fundamental part of leading the team in both parole and community work offices to shape the future of Corrective Services.

The values of Service Trust Accountability Integrity and Respect are embedded in all that Community Corrections does. This role especially requires the applicant to provide a service to our community and the staff and clients of our agency. Being enthusiastic, non-judgmental, and friendly are important aspects to achieving the requirements of the role. This is a unique opportunity to work in a hybrid model focusing on offenders preparing for release to the community as well as supervising offenders residing in the biggest residential centre in the state. Long Bay Parole Unit provides a service to two large and complex Correctional Centres, the Metropolitan Special Purpose Centre, and Long Bay Hospital. It consists of maximum- and minimum-security areas. The Violent Offender’s Treatment Program (VOTP), High Intensity Sex Offender Program (HISOP) and the Moderate Intensity Sex Offender Program (MISOP) are all run at MSPC. Long Bay Hospital accommodates both classified and remanded offenders undergoing medical and psychiatric care.

What you’ll do

As part of the middle management team in community corrections, you will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Provide professional support, mentoring and leadership to a team of Community Corrections Officers (CCOs) to maintain a high standard of professional service delivery that is compliant with legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive team with positive and transparent culture focused on best practice and excellence.
  • Guide and support team members with differing levels of experience and technical competence to enable their development.

What we’re looking for

•           Capacity to provide professional supervision, coaching and mentoring to develop team members, including new CCOs during “on the job training” and a mandatory probation period.

•           Strong leadership skills, including in engaging and motivating staff, and previous experience in providing professional supervision, development, and coaching.

•           Flexible and resilient, to respond to the varied demands of a Community Corrections Office and manage complex and higher risk offenders.

•           Skills and confidence to provide clear and constructive feedback to promote individual accountability and develop staff capability.

Essential Requirements:

•           Current driver’s licence and have a willingness/ability to drive within NSW. You will be required to travel between both the Parole and Community work offices.
