 (Multiple roles available in our Statewide Disability Services, Mobile Psychology Team or Mental Health Screening Unit at Silverwater MRRC)

Employment type – Ongoing Opportunities – Full time or part time job share arrangement available.

Salary:

    • Psychologist $76,531.00pa – $113,765.00pa.
    • Specialist Psychologist $109,631.00pa - $134,446.00pa
    • Plus environmental allowance, employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Statewide Disability Services (SDS) (Malabar with some travel)– Supporting individuals with cognitive impairment or other disability in custody, ensuring they receive tailored psychological assessment and interventions.
  • Mobile Psychology Team (MPT) (Malabar with travel)– Providing psychological support across multiple correctional centres via a combination of travelling to centres and sessions using audiovisual link, offering flexibility and exposure to diverse cases.
  • Mental Health Screening Unit (MHSU) –(Silverwater) – Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments for newly received individuals, identifying risks, and providing psychological intervention.

Your role 

As a Psychologist at Long Bay or Silverwater Correctional Centres, you will:

  • Conduct psychological assessments and interventions for individuals with complex needs in custody.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide targeted support and treatment plans.
  • Offer expert consultation to staff and statutory authorities on management of people on orders in custody.
  • Ensure ethical and evidence-based practices are consistently applied in all interventions.

 

What you’ll do 

  • Deliver psychological assessments and interventions to individuals with complex needs in custody.
  • Provide expert consultation to staff regarding mental health, disability and risk management (including sexual and violent offender assessment).
  • Assist in the formulation of behaviour support plans for those in custody, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation on the Offender Integrated Management System (OIMS) and psychology files for all individuals receiving psychological services.
  • May prepare reports and provide consultation to statutory authorities, including the State Parole Authority, Serious Offenders Review Council, and Mental Health Review Tribunal. 

 

What we’re looking for 

  • A dedicated and ethical psychologist who is passionate about delivering high-quality mental health and behavioural services.
  • Experience in mental health, cognitive impairment, risk assessment, and behaviour support in complex environments would be beneficial
  • Understanding of contemporary correctional principles and evidence-based intervention strategies.

Essential requirements

  • Minimum four-year accredited qualification in psychology with current provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout NSW.
