  • Salary – Clerk Grade 9/10 $120,859 - $133,183 per annum, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation

Under Closing the Gap Priority Reform Two, YJNSW is committed to increasing investment in Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and ensuring that the services we commission, that will primarily serve Aboriginal young people and their families, are designed, and delivered by ACCOs.

 

In March 2024, the Premiers department announced the development of the Moree Bail Accommodation and Support Program. This is being led by Youth Justice and is one of the key elements of the place-base response being led by the Premiers Department in partnership with the Moree LGA Youth Crime Local Governance Group.

The Moree Bail Accommodation Program will provide an innovative, culturally safe and strengthening accommodation environment to young people in Moree, particularly Aboriginal young people. This is a strength based residential family style environment for young Aboriginal people who need to be supported through a strong focus on culture, family and understanding. Subject to co-design with young people, families and local stakeholders.

 

Your role

 

Youth Justice acknowledges the importance of lived experience and how it contributes to the valuable work we do with the community.

 

We are looking for a dynamic Senior Project Officer who will be responsible for the contract management.  To undertake the practice and commitment of co-design to work in partnership with the Service Provider to develop, review and implement the Bail Accommodation and Support Program.

 

 

What you’ll do

 

This position will contribute to the evolution of the program and provide expert advice on operational reforms to foster a responsive, adaptable service. You will also in partnership with the Service provider:

  • Ensure that the program is designed to meet the needs of Aboriginal young people and their families, with a focus on cultural safety, self-determination, and community-led approaches.
  • Work closely with ACCOs to commission services that are culturally appropriate and effective for Aboriginal clients, in alignment with Closing the Gap priorities and reforms.
  • Engage with the Service provider to co-design the program, ensuring their voices and  perspectives are central to the development process.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community partners including local Youth Justice staff to support the successful delivery of the program and promote positive outcomes for young people in Moree.
  • Monitor and evaluate the program's impact, collecting data and feedback to inform continuous improvement and ensure that services are meeting the needs of the community.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to coordinate resources, funding, and support for the program, ensuring its sustainability and long-term success.

What we’re looking for

 

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of Aboriginal community engagement principles and practices. You should have a proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, in particular with Aboriginal communities, families and ACCOs, including community members, service users, and partner organisations.
  • Experience in co-design, conducting needs assessments, and incorporating community feedback into program development is essential.
  • The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, empathy, and cultural competence to effectively engage with community members and build trusting relationships.
  • Additionally, a background in program development, project management, and evaluation would be beneficial to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the co-designed program.
  • A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to anti-racism
