Your role
Corrective Services NSW has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven team player with experience in supporting and advocating for inmates to join the team responsible for facilitating employment pathways for offenders.
The Work Readiness team supports people to overcome prejudice, preparing them for and placing them into employment. This team contributes to reduce reoffending by providing pathways from training and employment undertaken in custody, aiding successful reintegration.
The Case Manager Employment Pathways role will be responsible for managing a case load of offenders, participating in the “Pathways to Employment” program, preparing them for employment as they transition from custody into the community, and providing post release support with employment opportunities.
This role is for a Talent Pool Creation only at this stage.
What you’ll do
As a suitable applicant you will be responsible for identifying suitable employment and/or training pursuits for offenders leaving custody. The duties and responsibilities include, however are not limited to:
- Support inmates achieve case management goals through motivational interviewing, modelling of pro-social behaviours and drawing on strengths-based approaches, with reference to employment and training
- Refer inmates to appropriate services and programs in accordance with the case plan strategies specifically related to employment and vocational training
- Coordinate activities to ensure the successful reintegration of offenders into the community
- Follow processes to ensure suitable inmates participate in post release employment.
- Work with established employment service providers to identify and secure suitable post release employment opportunities for inmates.
- Provide ongoing support to inmates post-release to ensure employment is maintained in accordance with Parole requirements.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in negotiation, conflict management and stakeholder influencing
- Demonstrated skills in research, analysis and report writing
- Understand the principles of change and their application to case management practices
- Understand the nature of offending and the challenges this cohort presents
- Experience working with offenders and/or vulnerable/disadvantaged people in the community, seeking employment opportunities.
Essential requirements
- Current NSW driver licence with ability and willingness to travel throughout NSW
- Experience which demonstrates the ability to meet the key accountabilities and focus capabilities as detailed in the role description
