Location – Parramatta in the Justice Precinct, close to public transport

Employment type – Temporary opportunity for up to 2 years

Salary - $125,693 - $138,510 pa plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

The Community Corrections Representative is responsible for representing Community Corrections as an expert and official member of the State Parole Authority (SPA), ensuring that matters relating to people subject to parole or eligible for parole are brought to the attention of the SPA and considered in accordance with statutory requirements. The role also provides a communication link between Community Corrections and the SPA to facilitate an effective working relationship.

 

What you’ll do

As a Community Corrections Representative on the State Parole Authority, you will review recommendations and materials from Corrective Services NSW and provide informed, considered and clear advice from Community Corrections in State Parole Authority meetings.

 

You will work independently, with considerable autonomy. You will attend face-to-face SPA meetings as scheduled and have flexibility to complete your reading and preparations in the office, at home or in other locations that provide appropriate information security.

 

What we’re looking for

You must have demonstrated current experience in Community Corrections, with recent and extensive experience in a Parole Unit.  Additionally, you must have:

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Crimes (Administration of Sentences) Act 1999
  • An understanding of custodial and community-based programs, the classification of inmates and the functions of the Serious Offenders Review Council.

The State Parole Authority makes informed, impartial and evidence-based decisions about the safe reintegration of inmates into the community.

The SPA also has powers to:

  • set additional parole conditions for offenders 
  • revoke any parole order made in NSW
  • reinstate any parole order when appropriate  
  • revoke and reinstate any Intensive Correction Order (ICO)
  • decline parole for terrorism related offenders unless it is satisfied that the offender will not engage in, incite, or assist others to engage in terrorist acts or violent extremism.

Community safety is the State Parole Authority’s highest priority.

You will sit as an official member of SPA, employed by and representing  Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW).
