Working across hazard, exposure and vulnerability data, you will help to identify key risks, trends and opportunities that inform evidence‑based decision‑making across government and partner agencies.
You will work with complex probabilistic, spatial and non‑spatial datasets to develop risk metrics, including Average Annual Loss (AAL), and contribute to decision support tools that guide disaster adaptation, preparedness and resilience planning. This role sits at the intersection of data, policy and impact, translating complex analytical outputs into practical insights that support real‑world outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Sourcing, preparing, integrating and transforming data from disparate sources to develop hazard, exposure, vulnerability, risk and insurance metrics.
- Analysing probabilistic, spatial and non‑spatial data to identify trends, patterns and drivers of multi‑hazard risk across NSW.
- Developing, maintaining and curating datasets, dashboards and data visualisation tools that support disaster adaptation and resilience planning.
- Applying statistical, geospatial and advanced analytical methods, including machine learning techniques, to deliver actionable insights.
- Producing analytical outputs such as datasets, dashboards, visualisations and technical reports to inform decision‑makers.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support coordinated, evidence‑based disaster risk reduction initiatives.
About You
You are a data‑driven analyst who is motivated by applying analytics to real‑world challenges with tangible community impact. You bring a strong analytical mindset, are comfortable working with complex datasets, and can translate technical insights into clear, decision‑ready outputs for diverse audiences.
You will bring:
- Practical experience in natural hazard or disaster risk modelling.
- Proficiency in Excel and coding in SQL and Python for data wrangling, analysis and automation.
- Experience analysing probabilistic, spatial and non‑spatial data to generate meaningful insights.
- Strong capability in communicating analysis through charts, spatial outputs and data visualisations; familiarity with tools such as Power BI and GIS platforms is desirable.
- The ability to manage competing analytical priorities while working collaboratively with stakeholders across government and partner organisations
