About the Agency
The NSW Reconstruction Authority is a statutory corporation that will improve how NSW plans for disasters and ensure that we recover from them faster.
To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the NSW Reconstruction Authority will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, businesses and government. When disaster does strike, we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities and other stakeholders.
About the role
The Legal Officer supports the Office of the General Counsel in its provision of legal advice to the Executive leadership and across the Authority, undertakes research and other related tasks on a range of legal issues.
Reporting to the Manager, Legal, you will assist the Director, and other members of the Office of the General Counsel, to provide legal advice to support delivery of policy objectives and exercising the statutory powers and functions of the Authority. This includes drafting and reviewing documents, conducting research and analysis, managing external legal services, and staying up to date on legal developments. You will assist the team in ensuring legal compliance and risk management, whilst building effective professional relationships and partnerships.
Undertaking a wide range of tasks with often tight or competing timeframes, the role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm, and a commitment to providing high quality advice and services.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated extensive knowledge, and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:

Administrative law

Compliance and regulatory law

General litigation

Planning law

Environmental law
High calibre candidates will have legal qualifications, and admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW. They will have extensive knowledge and experience in providing legal advice in a complex multifaceted agency or business. Strong candidates will have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and an ability to deliver outcomes while working in a dynamic environment.
