Your Role

We’re looking for a Manager – Cultural Innovation to lead and champion the development and implementation of strategies, projects, frameworks, and initiatives that enable the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) to conduct its business and act consistently with the principle and the practice of placing Aboriginal culture at the centre of everything AHO does.

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Lead and develop key strategies and frameworks that –
    • Enable the AHO to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring Aboriginal Culture is at the Centre in everything we do across AHO, the Aboriginal community (including tenants and clients) as well as key internal and external stakeholders.
    • Empower Aboriginal organisations as project managers and facilitators through collaboration, partnerships and supporting one another so that Aboriginal families and their communities’ benefit from a holistic approach across agencies and sectors.
  • Lead, develop and embed the AHO Aboriginal Cultural Framework which has the following key elements parts –
    • Aboriginal Tenant/Clients
    • Aboriginal Cultural Capability Competency Advocacy and
    • Aboriginal Community Housing Providers
  • Lead, develop and facilitate the formation, terms of reference, peak processes, and outcomes with designated Aboriginal stakeholders.
  • Lead the AHO Aboriginal Employment Strategy
  • Lead the development, adoption and embedding of the AHO Aboriginal Cultural Framework in line with Aboriginal culture being at the centre of all activities and incorporating –
    • AHO Engagement Framework
    • AHO Cultural Co-Design Model
    • AHO Governance
    • Aboriginal Communities
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive library of resources and tools to support AHO people and processes.
  • Lead the effective delivery of program governance and performance standards, evaluation measures, risk mitigation plans, performance deviation plans and strategy and program reporting.
     
  • Providing leadership in the development and implementation of strategies, projects, frameworks and initiatives in an environment characterised by conflicting priorities and multiple stakeholders.
  • Maintaining oversight of project progress and identifying issues and risks in consultation with stakeholders and staff.

 

What we’re looking for

 

  • Demonstrated strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural beliefs and attitudes and of the socio-economic position of Aboriginal people within Australian society, and of their impacts in relation to the housing continuum.
  • A thorough understanding of the Aboriginal political and historical impacts upon policy developments in NSW and nationally in relation to Aboriginal land rights, and Aboriginal land use.
  • Credibility with the Aboriginal community and a sound understanding of Aboriginal culture and of the issues which affect Aboriginal people, families, communities, and the Aboriginal community housing sector
  • Substantial expertise in the development and achievement of effective strategies and programs with Aboriginal organisations and communities.
  • Experienced in the development and implementation of innovative programs through Government Sectors

 

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons.

 

    Essential Requirements:

Confirmation of Aboriginality form

or

Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) is part of the newly established Homes NSW and sits under the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) 

The AHO is a statutory authority, established under the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998 (NSW) and plans, administers, and expands the policies, program, and asset base for Aboriginal housing in NSW. 

The AHO works in partnership with Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHP) and Aboriginal communities in delivering housing program and developing housing policy and standards. AHO aims to build the skills of Aboriginal community housing sector to improve the management of both their properties and their organisations to achieve a culturally appropriate and response service system for Aboriginal people.
