Your role

 

AHO Communications and Engagement team are on the hunt for an energetic, motivated and engaged Senior Communications Officer to join their team.

 

The Senior Communications Officer (Identified role) will plan, create, deliver, and evaluate communications activities that align with AHO’s strategy. This includes the development and implementation of creative external and internal communications across the AHO.

 

What you’ll do

 

You’ll work in a high-performing and creative team that works across all AHO teams.

You will build strong relationships and work in partnership with other key government agencies and various internal and external stakeholders. It’s an interesting and diverse role providing support and exposure to many different areas of the AHO.

You will also:

  • Design, implement and coordinate communications activities that help the AHO communicate with its diverse communities including tenants and Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs).
  • Work in partnership with creative organisations to develop communications underpinned by representation and self-determination.
  • Look for opportunities to review communications content (across all platforms) and introduce new frameworks including cultural protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to coordinate important external and internal events, including event planning and on day delivery.
  • Plan and create a range of communications across platforms – such as video, print and digital.
  • Develop communications guides and protocols to ensure strong positioning for AHO.
  • Deliver communications projects, including associated project management.
  • Develop communications plans to effectively tell the story of the AHO’s various workstreams (and AHO-wide communication strategy).
  • Undertake analysis and review of communications to determine outcomes of initiatives and inform future planning and activity.
  • Coordinate updates to the AHO intranet site and AHO website.
  • Create, monitor, and update information across AHO channels – including social media and website – to keep our audiences up to date.
  • Research trends and issues to identify key audiences in community and identify strategies to underpin best practice strategies for communications development.
  • Managing the delivery of a range of communications initiatives of varying size and complexity, across NSW
  • Ensuring communications responsibilities are delivered on time, on budget and meet the needs of the AHO and those we have important relationships with.
  • Understanding the needs and perspectives of stakeholders to create communications which are accessible, creative and in line with requirements.
  • Maintaining knowledge and understanding of AHO programs, policies and developments and keeping up to date with an extensive range Government strategies and announcements to enable agile responses to changing needs.

 

What we’re looking for

 

  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultural beliefs and attitudes and of the socio-economic position of Aboriginal people within Australian society, and of their impacts in relation to housing. A thorough understanding of the Aboriginal political and historical impacts upon policy developments in NSW and nationally in relation to Aboriginal land rights, and Aboriginal land use.
  • Strong experience in writing for diverse audiences, creating and managing content for digital platforms and social media, video creating and editing, digital CMS.
  • Experienced in the hosting and facilitation of online meetings and sessions.
  • Experience working in government is highly desired but not necessary
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Advanced capability within Office 365 environment
  • Ability to travel for work within NSW including current driver’s license.

The AHO is a statutory authority, established under the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998 (NSW) and plans, administers, and expands the policies, program, and asset base for Aboriginal housing in NSW. 

The AHO works in partnership with Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHP) and Aboriginal communities in delivering housing program and developing housing policy and standards.
