About the Role
Due to unprecedent natural disasters, there has been a significant increase in data collected and analysed by the NSW Reconstruction Authority. We owe it to disaster affected communities to harness and surface this data to inform reconstruction, hasten recovery and build resilience to future events.
The role is responsible for setting up data ingestion pipelines, automation of existing manual processes and the continual enrichment and maintenance of a centralised data repository that supports insights generation, operational reporting, and automation of hazard risk models.
This role provides expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on good data practices, solution design and is responsible for innovative use of technology within the agency. Key responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):

Data ingestion from structured and unstructured sources using compliant processes.

Enrichment and maintenance of a centralised data repository that is scalable.

Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for transformation of data, it’s preparation for modelling and insights generation in a cloud environment.

Staying abreast of Data Engineering good practice, locating new data sets for modelling, and innovative uses of analytics tooling.
What we're looking for:
You thrive on blank slate projects or in start-ups where ingenuity, simple design, and problem solving are drivers for success. You already have wide-ranging BI and analytics skills and won’t be deterred if you need to pick a few new ones along the way. You love collaborating with peers in other government departments with a view to learning from their experiences and leveraging off their data sets.

You’re an Azure expert who is highly proficient in designing, building, and managing scalable data solutions. You thrive on ingesting and transforming complex data curating it for consumption by the wider business so insights can be derived to help impacted communities recover and be better prepared.

Experience with Databricks and Snowflake is essential. Familiarity with the Microsoft Power Platform and DevOps best practices is highly desirable. A working knowledge of geospatial data processing, including tools like ArcGIS or similar, would be a bonus.

You’re a great communicator who can engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders to elicit requirements and translate them into efficient data engineering solutions that are robust, secure, and fit for purpose.

You’re passionate about improving existing data pipelines and infrastructure while exploring new technologies and methods to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

You’re a problem-solver with a ‘can-do’ attitude. You thrive in a collaborative team environment where knowledge-sharing and continuous learning are part of the culture.
You must have:

Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, data analytics, or equivalent data analytics knowledge and experience

An ability and willingness to travel within NSW and support other operational roles during disasters, emergencies, and other events, consistent with skills, background, and personal circumstances.

About the Agency
The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation within Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure. The Authority will improve how NSW plans for disasters and help communities to recover from them faster.
