Salary - $125,693.00 pa - $138,510.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
This position assists the Manager of Internal Audit in implementing consistent and integrated internal audit and assurance practices while fostering a proactive and positive assurance culture. The role involves collaborating with management in the Department to integrate assurance and controls into business processes and to promote the Internal Audit (IA) frameworks. Additionally, the role is responsible for managing the completion of the DCJ Internal Audit Program within the context of their internal audit portfolio.
What you’ll do
Internal audit is an independent, objective assurance and advisory activity designed to add value and improve an organisation's operations. The Internal Audit team provides an independent and objective audit and advisory service to:
- provide assurance to the Secretary, and the Audit and Risk Committees (ARC), that the Department’s financial and operational controls, designed to manage the Department’s risks and achieve the entity’s objectives, are operating in an efficient, effective, and ethical manner; and
- assist management in improving the Department’s business performance.
As a Senior Internal Audit Officer, you will deliver risk-based audits, with key activities including:
- Leading the delivery of assigned internal audit engagements, related projects including management-requested reviews and advisory services in accordance with the Internal Auditing Standards.
- Management of the monitoring and reporting of the status of implementation of recommendations.
- Collaborating on the development of internal audit manual, quality assurance program, annual internal audit planning and reporting to the ARC and DCJ Executive Leadership Team.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of the Internal Audit function and compliance with Global Internal Audit Standards.

As a senior internal auditor, you will act in accordance with relevant legal and professional expectations including but not limited to the organisational Code of Conduct and the Global Internal Audit Standards. This includes exhibiting professional courage, honesty and objectivity, applying appropriate skills and competencies and exercising due professional care when conducting their work.
What we’re looking for
The ideal candidate would have:
- 3-5 years’ experience as an internal auditor working within a large and complex organisation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate.
- A proactive team player eager to learn, share, and enhance current practices by adopting modern tools and technologies for continuous improvement.
- Tertiary/professional qualifications in quality assurance, audit, risk management (such as Certified Internal Auditor, CPA, CA or Certified Information Systems Auditor) or equivalent experience and commitment to ongoing professional development.
- An ability and willingness to travel in New South Wales to undertake audit activities.
