Your role
The Senior Policy & Projects Officer will be responsible to provide project management, secretariat and policy analysis and advice. The Office of the Anti-Slavery Commissioner (OASC) supports the Commissioner’s efforts to advocate for and promote effective action to combat modern slavery in NSW.
The Commissioner:
- monitors the effectiveness of legislation and policies to combat and address modern slavery;
- identifies and provides assistance and support to victims of modern slavery;
- makes recommendations and provides information, advice, education and training to prevent and provide remedy for instances of modern slavery;
- raises community awareness of modern slavery;
- monitors reporting concerning risks of modern slavery in public procurement; and
- collaborates with business, civil society and the research sector.
What you’ll do
You will work as part of a small integrated team and your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:
- Plan, manage and execute work received through the 1800 FREEDOM Hotline and the Anti-slavery public mailbox where requests for support and assistance are received
- Conduct intake calls using highly executed trauma informed interviewing skills
- Liaise and consult with government, non-government organisations and the private sector creating long-term positive working relationships
- Briefing the Commissioner and S9 Enquiry Team with analytical decision-making processes – verbally, in writing and via briefing notes
- Allocation of procurement, policy and legal requests coming through the public mailbox
- Prepare comprehensive written materials, including reports, guidelines, briefing notes, and correspondence, aligning with agency standards and government requirements.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for a dynamic individual with proven judgment providing a high-level of organisational skills, able to manage, plan and prioritise, for the delivery of multiple complex work tasks within tight timeframes.
Demonstrated:
- experience in providing high level advice, including recommendations for program reform in line with the Commissioners mandates
- experience working collaboratively with government and non-government agencies
- experience with developing Briefing Notes, Project Briefs, Guidelines and using TRIM and infoShare for document management
- cultural competency skills and history of working with vulnerable people and communities
- high level of written and verbal communication skills coupled with the capability to build and maintain relationships with people with lived experience, stakeholders, Ministers and executive staff within government and non-government sector
- ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in social welfare, project management, policy and planning
