- Principle location – Parramatta - Flexible working arrangements maybe negotiated.
- Employment type – Temporary 12-months position – Full time (35 hours)
- Salary – Legal Officer – Grade 5, Base Salary ($149,906 – $152,845), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
As part of the Advising and Community Protection team, you will provide high-level legal and litigation advice on complex areas of law, ensuring effective legal services for senior management and clients. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled legal professional to lead, mentor, and manage a team, while contributing to important legal reforms, policy development, and strategic initiatives within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
What you’ll do
As part of the Advising and Community Protection team, you will provide expert legal advice and services in accordance with legislation, policy, and practice standards. You will lead the management of complex legal matters, conduct litigation, and contribute to the development of complex legal documents, legislation, and policies.
You will also:
- Supervise and mentor team members, fostering professional development and ensuring high-quality legal work.
- Manage complex legal cases, providing advice on emerging legal issues and their long-term impact.
- Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of complex legislation, policies, and legal precedents.
- Design and lead large projects, including law reform initiatives and reviews of legal systems and practices.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on proposed legislation and legal interpretations.
- Represent the Department in litigation before Courts and Tribunals and manage responses to subpoenas and legal applications.
- Design and deliver legal education and training programs to build capacity and improve legal services.
- Contribute to strategic planning and the optimal delivery of legal services and advice.
- Work as part of a cohesive, skilled team focused on continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the relevant area/s of law
- Legal Qualifications and eligibility to hold a practising certificate as a Government legal practitioner issued by the NSW Law Society, with condition 2 removed
- Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
- Where required hold a National Security Clearance at the appropriate level in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
