Aboriginal Senior Project Officer

Temporary position available for up to 2 years
Department of Communities and Justice – Commissioning and Planning
- Location – Negotiable across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern NSW districts
- Salary - $116,211 to $128,061 plus super and leave loading

The Department of Communities and Justice considers that being an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this role in accordance with Sections 14 and 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and under Clause 26 of the Government Sector Employment (General) Rules 2014.
Your role
- You will provide leadership, advice and support across business streams in designing and implementing effective strategies to improve service design and service delivery.
- You will liaise and work across business streams, non-government stakeholders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to form partnerships and develop and implement flexible, adaptive and innovative approaches to improve outcomes for Aboriginal clients.
- You will also maintain and build relationships between DCJ and Aboriginal Elders, organisations, networks and communities and provide guidance to the Aboriginal Staff Network and report on the district’s ‘Aboriginal initiatives.
- Your role also involves working within the District’s Aboriginal Employment Strategy to increase Aboriginal employment, improve induction and retention of Aboriginal staff and increase the number of Aboriginal people in senior leadership roles. You will also manage an
- Aboriginal staff mentoring program designed to build capacity and support Aboriginal staff to apply for leadership roles.
- Working with the Commissioning and Planning team, you will strive to increase the number of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO) positioned to provide fee for service, family preservation and homelessness services to DCJ.
What we are looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
- A current NSW Driver’s Licence and a willingness to travel to and work with clients in their home (a corporate vehicle will be provided for travel between office and clients home).
