- For a committee member the daily rate is $320 per day as per the Public Service Commission (PSC) – NSW Government Boards and Committees Remuneration Framework – Class D, Level 3.

Your role
The NSW Housing Appeals Committee (HAC) is an independent agency which deals with appeals from people who are unhappy with decision made by social housing providers (also referred to as public, community housing and Aboriginal community housing providers) in NSW.
The Member role is a Ministerial appointment and is accountable to the Minister for Housing. As a committee member your role will be to consider appeals and formulate decisions/findings as a committee member.
Members must be available for one to two full hearing days each month and three scheduled training days each year. In addition to their usual one - two full hearing days each month, an Aboriginal member will sit on hearings involving Identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients either in person or over the telephone. These requests will be made on an ad hoc basis when required.
What you’ll do
Actively participating in making decisions, the member will also contribute to the identification of systemic issues related to policymaking. Each member will bring the benefit of their expertise, skills and qualifications to the committee to ensure that appellants have access to a fair and merit-based system of review.
This member will operate in a fair, non-biased and ethical manner, participate actively in Committee discussions to determine the outcome and assist the Presiding chair in creating an informal, non-adversarial and accessible environment for hearings.

Successful applicants will have:
- an interest in broader social, affordable and private sector housing issues in NSW
- experience in hearing processes and deliberations
- an understanding in policy and the ability to interpret policy
- experience in interviewing high needs clients
- have high-level analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
- a strong sense of fairness and an awareness of cross-cultural issues
- the ability to exercise impartial judgement
- the ability to make fair, balanced and equitable decisions
- strong cultural competence and are committed to working respectfully with Aboriginal communities in NSW

Note: to maintain the independence of the Housing Appeals Committee, people who currently work in or sit on the Boards of social housing organisations are not able to be considered for this role.
