We're looking for a passionate and driven Business Analyst to help improve the way we work and deliver better outcomes.

Your role

The primary purpose of the role is to optimise business systems, processes, and workflows, ensuring they align with overall business needs and operational objectives.

The Business Analyst (Frontline Divisional Services – Corrective Services) role is to capture business requirements based on consultation/engagement and to review and analyse the organisation's business intentions, services, processes, and information needs to identify changes that lead to business improvements. This is in alignment with business priorities (Line of Business Strategies) and the ICT Strategy.

You will liaise with internal and external clients to identify business needs and articulate requirements, as well as analyse and facilitate improvements to business systems, processes, and workflows.

You will work closely with internal ICT stakeholders such as Project Managers, Architects, Security, Operations, Procurement, Pipeline, and Subject Matter Experts to plan and initiate client-funded projects in response to business needs. You will also be a trusted advisor to the business, providing relevant advice on current ICT solutions as well as future-state initiatives and authoring or providing accurate inputs into key documents such as Concept Papers, Project Briefs, Business Cases, Briefing Notes, and Business Requirements Documents.

 

What you'll do

As a Business Analyst, you'll explore our business systems, processes, and workflows to identify areas for optimisation, ensuring they align seamlessly with our overarching goals and operational plans. By collaborating closely with stakeholders, you'll introduce new or updated tools and processes, clearly demonstrating their importance and the positive impact they bring to the organisation.

 

  • Design tools and implement processes to identify, analyse and facilitate improvements to business systems, processes and workflows aligned with the overall business unit requirements and the Department's operational plans.
  • Coordinate and undertake research and analysis of best practices on processes and activities to ensure DCJ internal and external services are delivered efficiently, business outcomes are measured and reported as required and systemic and emerging risks are promptly identified. Participating in reviews of the business unit's strategies
  • Review the business unit's strategies to enable DCJ to deliver services in a cost-effective manner and to position DCJ to meet current and future requirements.
  • Take ownership of recording and managing the resolution of business issues, both process and technical with escalation to project management as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement strategies to monitor service provider usage and capture funding and operational performance data to ensure DCJ service delivery partners are performing to a high standard.
  • Provide proactive and evidence-based advice and reports to the business unit leader, Director and/or the Executive Director to ensure the business unit's matters which impact current business and future decision-making are fully considered.
  • Research and prepare advice in the form of briefs, policy and discussion papers in response to Ministerial, Cabinet or DCJ requests.
  • Liaise and work across DCJ Divisions and non-government stakeholders to ensure effective interface between program development, planning, service design and policy implementation.
  • Work effectively with team members towards mutual continued development and provide feedback and advice on research and analysis undertaken. 
  • Assist as a technical conduit between business and non-technical resources and vendors.

 

What we're looking for

Being part of the Frontline Divisional Services - Corrective Services, the successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to thrive under high-pressure deadlines.
  • Proven ability to consult with stakeholders, analyse complex information and deliver actionable insights through reports and solution design.
  • Experience in identifying evidence-based opportunities for improvement and implementing solutions to streamline workflows and enhance service delivery.
  • Demonstrated business analysis expertise focusing on process re-engineering and the application of innovative technologies.
  • Proficiency in business process modelling using BPMN or similar notation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills, both verbal and written.
  • A working knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), databases, and IT infrastructure to support effective collaboration with technical and operational teams.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, bridging the gap between business needs and technical capabilities
