About the role
There are 5 regional teams in Service Delivery, Public Guardian. The Regional Manager (RM), Sydney Metropolitan Team is responsible for 14 staff across the guardianship grades. They are also responsible for two administration staff in the team. The RM reports to the Assistant Public Guardian, Service Delivery.
There are two specialist customer facing teams within Establishment and Quality Assurance, including the Review and Response Team. The manager of Review and Response Team is responsible for 13 staff across the guardianship grades. They are also responsible for two administration staff in the team. The manager reports to the Assistant Public Guardian, Establishment and Quality Assurance.
The Public Guardian can be appointed by a court or tribunal to make health and lifestyle decisions for people who are unable to on their own, or with support. These include decisions regarding where a person may live, the medical/dental treatment they receive, health care and service delivery. The Senior Guardian is an important team member, providing guardianship services to ensure our customers are delivered an efficient and effective service in line with guardianship standards and the NSW Trustee and Guardian Customer Excellence Principles.
We have 1 x full time temporary position based in Sydney CBD and 1 x full time temporary position based in either Sydney, Gosford or Parramatta

Key Accountabilities
- Develop and implement decision making plans, maintain accurate customer records, undertake individual
- and systemic advocacy to achieve positive outcomes for our customers.
- Prepare accurate reports, submissions and recommendations to senior officers and the Public Guardian on issues within delegated authority. Prepare well-reasoned reports to the Guardianship Division of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) on relevant matters and attending hearings where required.
- Make decisions in line with policies, within the Senior Guardian delegation level and authority from the Guardianship Division, to best serve the interests of our customers.
- Collaborate with a range of professionals, staff, families, carers and other relevant persons on complex or contentious matters.
- Conduct visits to people represented by the Public Guardian in line with the Guardianship Standards.
- Develop knowledge and experience of local services and key support infrastructure in relation to guardianship matters.
About you
The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective engagement and the ability to adapt your communication for a range of needs
- A positive attitude with the ability to manage an active caseload
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
- Motivated to work both collaboratively and independently
- Sound leadership skills to influence and negotiate, as well as think and solve problems
- A good understanding of relevant legislation: Guardianship Act 1987 (NSW), the Mental Health Act 2007 (NSW), the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (Cth) and the Aged Care Act 1997 (Cth)
- Understand and use relevant software to prepare accurate reports, submissions and recommendations to senior officers and the public on issues within delegated authority.
