About the role 

As a GIS Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in administering and governing the ArcGIS enterprise platform and work with contemporary cloud-based applications like DataBricks and Snowflake on Azure. Your work ensures the integrity, traceability, and optimal use of spatial data across the enterprise. From ingestion and transformation to visualisation and storage, you’ll work on a unified platform that delivers efficient engineering solutions to meet diverse data needs. 

 

 

About You  

You are an experienced GIS professional with a strong engineering mindset and a passion for data governance. You thrive in complex environments, balancing competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and compliance. Your ability to collaborate with internal teams and external agencies ensures seamless data sharing in alignment with compliant and efficient processes. 

 

Key experience and knowledge: 

  • Extensive experience maintaining ArcGIS enterprise environments and working with spatial and non-spatial datasets interchangeably. 

  • Deep understanding of spatial data transformations and visualisation techniques. 

  • Proven ability to optimise ArcGIS compute and storage resources on Azure platforms. 

 

Technical and soft skills: 

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS enterprise administration and resource optimisation. 

  • Spatial data enrichment techniques. 

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a continuous improvement mindset. 

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills to convey engineering concepts to a non-technical audience to achieve desired outcomes. 

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Engineering or related. 

  • Proficiency in the advanced use of ArcGIS packages 

  • Working knowledge of SQL and PySpark on an Azure cloud platform
