An exciting opportunity exists for two Senior Policy Officers to make valuable contributions to the development and implementation of strategic preparedness policy initiatives aimed at improving community preparedness to disasters in NSW. 

 

  • 2x Fulltime ongoing roles based in Sydney and/or Parramatta with flexible work options available.
  • Clerk Grade 9/10, base salary range ($120,859 - $133,183) plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

 
About the Agency 
 The NSW Reconstruction Authority (the Authority) is a statutory corporation within the Planning & Environment cluster. The Authority will improve how NSW plans for disasters and ensure that we recover from them faster.  
To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the Authority will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, businesses and government. When disaster does strike, we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities and other stakeholders. 

This role sits within the Preparedness Division, which ensures that communities are informed and supported to prepare for disasters and that agencies are coordinated and strategically aligned in their preparedness efforts. Enhancing the social cohesion and resilience of communities is foundational to the Division’s activities.

 

The Preparedness Division is highly community-focused and determined to make quantifiable improvements to household and local community preparedness levels across NSW to minimise the impacts of disasters.

 

About the role 
As Senior Policy Officer within the Preparedness Division, you are responsible for coordinated and timely policy development and advice on matters related to disaster and community preparedness. The role will require you to consult, engage and build strong stakeholder relationships to support community preparedness in NSW. 


Amongst other things, the role will involve: 

  • developing an evidence-based and sustainable systemic approach to community preparedness in NSW
  • facilitating internal and external consultation and collaboration to enhance clarity and efficiency of preparedness accountabilities and efforts
  • advocating within and across governments for funding approaches and policy reform required for system sustainability
  • supporting the integration of preparedness in existing and evolving planning, governance, and investment processes.

About you
The role will suit an experienced policy professional with the following qualities: 

  • the ability to work with a high level of autonomy and as part of a team on time sensitive strategic deliverables
  • a sound understanding of working with government, including policy development experience
  • experience in providing high-quality advice and information to senior executives and ministers to inform agency and/or government policy initiatives
  • demonstrated experience of building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships 
  • excellent interpersonal, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills.
