Solicitor, Wills and Estate Planning – NSW Trustee and Guardian

 

  • Ongoing vacancy. 35 hours per week.
  • Location: Sydney, Parramatta, Newcastle, Wollongong, Port Macquarie, Lismore, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga or Broken Hill. Flexible and hybrid working options available.
  • Clerk Grade: Legal Officer Grade I-III. Base salary $79,322 p.a. to $134,458 p.a. plus superannuation and annual leave loading

About the team

Our Estate Planning & Administration teams are responsible for delivering NSW Trustee & Guardian’s commercial services in Will making, as trustee, attorney, and as administrator/executor of deceased estates. The teams that make up the division and provide services across the following areas are:

  • Wills and Estate Planning
  • Wills and Estate and Planning Legal
  • Estate Administration
  • Trust, Powers of Attorney, Life Estates and Crime Confiscation/Civil Forfeiture

Our Wills and Estate Planning network provide our planning ahead services that centre around ensuring our customers are supported when they lose capacity and that their wishes are appropriately documented for when they pass. These key services include drafting and executing legally compliant Wills, Powers of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship documents that reflect customer wishes. The network is also responsible for delivering community education events to organisations, service providers and community groups and providing Will Safe, a long-term Will storage solution.

 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity that will see you:

  • Meet with customers to understand their wishes and help them make informed choices about their Will and estate plans.
  • Draft clear and accurate documents that reflect each customer’s needs and protect their interests.
  • Review trust deeds, constitutions, agreements and other documents, and provide expert advice in a way that’s easy to understand, helping customers feel supported and confident.
  • Work closely with your team to deliver high-quality services and share knowledge.
  • Contribute to service improvements that help us reach more people and deliver better outcomes.
  • Support NSW Trustee & Guardian’s mission to provide fair, accessible, and sustainable estate planning services across the state.

About you

Application is encouraged if you demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in wills and estate planning, with additional experience in estate administration and estate litigation highly regarded (ideally you will have at least 2 years post admission experience in these areas).
  • Skilled in reviewing, interpreting and/or drafting complex legal documents including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Appointments of Enduring Guardian, trust deeds, company constitutions, and contracts/agreements.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, case law, and policy frameworks.
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Committed to delivering high-quality, timely, and customer-focused legal services aligned with NSW Trustee & Guardian’s Customer Excellence Principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients, including vulnerable individuals.

Essential requirements  

  • Legal Qualifications and must be admitted to practice and have a current NSW practicing certificate.
  • Willingness to contribute to and participate in having phone calls and team email accounts monitored for quality assurance initiatives and projects.
  • Available to work after hours and weekends as required.
  • Current driver licence and ability to travel across NSW as required.
