Your role

 

Corrective Services NSW runs the state’s correctional centres, supervises offenders in the community, and delivers programs to reduce reoffending, support reintegration and build safer communities.

 

The Balund-a Program in within the works and education stream under reintegration. It is an innovative residential diversionary program for male offenders over 18 years of age.

 

Located near Tabulam on Wahlabul country, within the Bundjalung Nation. The program's aim is to reduce re-offending and enhance living and employment skills within a cultural and supportive community environment. The Aboriginal name, Bugilmah Burube Wullinje Balund-a translates as "Be good now you have a second chance down by the river".

 

What you’ll do

 

As part of the Mentor/Elder role you be responsible for the following, however not limited to:

 

  • Providing culturally-specific advice and support, to both residents and the multidisciplinary team
  • Specialise in the development and delivery of Aboriginal identified offender groups in a culturally sensitive manner and encourages participation.
  • Supervision is implemented consistent with CSNSW mission of reduction of re-offending. I would remove this as will they be “supervising” offenders as such in this role?
  • Identify and build collaborative community networks and (remove) partnerships to improve the effectiveness of the service delivery onsite and the support available to residents in community.
  • Contribute to case management including assessment of those referred to the program.

 Requirement of the role

 

  • Proof of Aboriginality
  • Current NSW driver’s license and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role, preferably LR licence.
