Salary:  Clerk Grade 5/6 (Starting at $97, 027 pa) plus Employer’s contribution to Superannuation and Annual Leave Loading  

Position Type: Talent Pool Creation for Ongoing and Temporary Full-Time roles and Part-Time roles

Training:  Paid training with a Certificate IV in Correctional Practice

 

Talent Pool Creation – Locations include - Tamworth, Moree, Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Lismore/Casino, Tweed Heads, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Kempsey.

Your role

As an Aboriginal Community Corrections Officer you will work with identified offenders, to create strategies to manage their risk of reoffending, and set long and short-term goals. You will also apply various methods to monitor offenders’ compliance and conduct home visits. We provide great working conditions with strong work culture focus and staff engagement activities.

What you’ll do

Community Corrections Officers are trained to provide case management for offenders being supervised on community-based orders such as Parole Orders, Intensive Corrections Orders and Community Corrections Orders and work with offenders in custody to prepare for their release into the community on parole.

 

There are extensive training opportunities and promotion opportunities as you progress. If you enjoy writing, working with a great team, being busy and liaising across multiple stakeholders then this work will interest you!

We’re looking for

 

  • People who are prepared to do their very best in line with our values and behaviours with a strong focus on community safety
  • Understand the NSW criminal justice system
  • Commitment in providing support and strengthening relationships between Corrective Services and the local Aboriginal community
  • Excellent Communications skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality and display integrity
  • Case Management experience, high resilience, great motivation, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment and apply cultural sensitivity

 

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.  Department of Communities & Justice considers that being an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this role in accordance with Sections 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977

 

There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows. Either will be accepted:

Confirmation of Aboriginality form

or

Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional correctional services and programs to reduce reoffending and create safer communities. We house remand and sentenced inmates in correctional centres and supervise offenders serving orders in the community.

CSNSW provides reports and advice to courts and releasing/parole authorities and assesses offenders in the community and in custody for relevant interventions to reduce their risks of reoffending. CSNSW works in partnership with other government and non-government justice and human services agencies to support victims, facilitate restorative justice and promote reintegration.
