Salary – Clerk Grade 5/6 ($97,027 - $107,059 pa) plus superannuation & leave loading
This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.

Are you passionate about supporting Aboriginal people and helping them reconnect with their culture and community? We have an exciting part-time opportunity available for an Aboriginal Mentor at Wellington Correctional Centre. This role offers a unique chance to work flexibly while making a meaningful impact in the lives of Aboriginal offenders, guiding them through their rehabilitation journey.
Your role
As an Aboriginal Mentor, you will play a crucial role in providing cultural, spiritual, and emotional support to Aboriginal offenders. You’ll assist them in times of crisis and encourage participation in programs that promote personal growth, cultural identity, and successful reintegration into the community. Your knowledge and lived experience will be invaluable in fostering a rehabilitative and respectful environment.
What you’ll do
- Provide culturally specific mentoring and emotional support to Aboriginal offenders.
- Assist in the development and delivery of culturally relevant programs that promote rehabilitation and reintegration.
- Strengthen connections between Aboriginal offenders, their communities, and Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW).
- Offer guidance during critical moments, ensuring individuals feel supported and empowered.
- Work as part of a diverse and supportive team committed to cultural empowerment and positive change.
What we’re looking for
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and justice issues to provide meaningful guidance.
- Aboriginality, with a deep connection to community and country, and a commitment to cultural empowerment.
- Strong communication and mediation skills to build relationships between Aboriginal communities, offenders, and CSNSW.
- A current, valid driver’s license and the ability to travel within NSW as required.

- You are accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
